Can a plywood chair be dynamic? Traditionally, most pieces of curved plywood furniture are created through steam bending processes, resulting in permanent curves.

In this project, I wanted to challenge this conventional approach by making the curve a dynamic feature. The end result is a plywood chair that changes its curvature when a user sits and activates it, offering a more interactive and adaptable experience.

Ideation

Concept

The final concept is a plywood chair held together by ropes. The seat, made of flexible plywood, bends inwards when a user sits on it. When not in use, the seat bends outwards again, creating a dynamic curvature.
